Bernhard Antique Display come to life as my bachelors degree. I wanted to figure out what is a letter, and how do we recognize them. By combining that with my wish to learn typography and how to make a variable font i made this. The legible part of the typeface is based on Bernhard Antique, which I saw at house sign in Oslo. The non-legible part is based on ikons relating to that letter. The combination was made in norwegian.

A part of the delivery was to make a casefilm for the font, since its best understood that way. If you want to see more of the process there are more videos on my Vimeo account.

One thing I quickly realized was that I could create some interesting pattern with the text. In addition to the casefilm I made a book where I visualize some more. The final delivery was made of 6 different fonts. One variable font, and 5 font that work in programs that don’t have variable fonts.
